NEREID Liaison
The human interface to NEREID — tuning, auditing, and constraining the AI operations layer and owning the human-in-the-loop gate.
Role Summary
The NEREID Liaison is the human interface to NEREID, the League's AI operations layer — tuning, auditing, and constraining the system that fuses AquaLink telemetry, Intelligence dossiers, and the Universal Marine Registry into a single operational picture. The Liaison translates Command intent into tasking the system can execute safely, reviews its outputs for bias and out-of-doctrine escalation, and owns the human-in-the-loop gate on every Disrupt or Direct-Action recommendation before it reaches a hull. The role is accountable for keeping a named person answerable for what the machine suggests, and for documenting model behaviour for after-action and governance review. NEREID is the League's force-multiplier and its sharpest liability at once; the Liaison is the conscience that keeps it on a leash.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and audit NEREID's data feeds, models, and operational recommendations, certifying provenance and freshness of inputs.
- Translate Command intent into constrained, bounded tasking the system can execute within doctrine.
- Review NEREID outputs for bias, error, drift, and out-of-doctrine escalation before they reach operators.
- Own and exercise the human-in-the-loop gate on any Disrupt or Direct-Action recommendation, with authority to withhold it.
- Document model behaviour, overrides, and failure modes for after-action and Governance ethics review.
- Coordinate with the Intelligence Analyst and Legal Counsel to keep the system's inferences sourced and defensible.
Required Qualifications
- Machine-learning or data-systems engineering background.
- Experience with human-in-the-loop and decision-support systems.
- Strong grasp of model evaluation, bias, and failure modes.
- Judgment to constrain automation under an escalation doctrine.
Preferred Qualifications
- AI-safety, alignment, or model-governance experience.
- Familiarity with sensor-fusion and maritime-domain-awareness systems.
- Cross-division fluency between engineering, intel, and governance.
- TIDEWATER-4 discretion and a record of sound automation judgment.
Certifications
Curricula are delivered through the Training Academy; currency is tracked on the HR training matrix.

Career Path
The NEREID Liaison (O-4) advances to Dispatch Chief (O-5) or laterals into the Intelligence Analyst and Governance tracks. The role works hand-in-hand with the Dispatch Coordinator on the floor and with Legal Counsel on automation ethics.
